Remember, these GCSE courses are totally free!*

* The GCSE courses are completely free to all eligible students (apart from learners under 19s and overseas students). There is no exam fee. You must be 19+ and not enrolled elsewhere to take a L2 qualification, you must also not have a previously passed GCSE.

What will I learn on these courses?

GCSE English Language:

  • Critical reading and comprehension of various texts, including fiction and non-fiction.
  • Writing skills, focusing on clarity, coherence, and technical accuracy.
  • Analytical skills, interpreting language, structure, and meaning in texts.
  • Effective communication, both written and oral, for different audiences and purposes.
  • Exam techniques and preparation strategies.

GCSE maths:

  • Fundamental mathematical concepts and operations, including arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.

When do these courses start?

Both English and maths GCSE courses begin in September 2025.

How long do the courses last?

Part 1 of our GCSE courses lasts for 13 weeks (September to December), part 2 runs from January to early June.

What happens at an assessment session?

Your assessment session will last approximately 2 hours. Unless you already have a Level 2 certificate, you’ll complete an online assessment to measure your levels in English and maths. For English only, you will need to complete a reading and writing assessment.

How do I apply?

Enrolments for 2024 GCSE English and maths courses are now closed. Applications for our September 2025 courses will open in June 2025.

Functional Skills

You may not actually need a GCSE! Our Functional Skills courses are recognised GCSE alternative qualifications, with a Functional Skills Level 2 course being equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (C).

We run these courses throughout the academic year and these may be something that is more appropriate for you at this time. You can read about Functional Skills courses here.
