Volunteer to be a classroom assistant – Free! – starts February 2025 – Strand House

The next course starts on February26th 2025 for 6 weeks with initial assessments taking place on Wednesday 19th February 2025, 10am-12pm.

Both the course and the assessment take place at our Strand House centre.

Who is this course for

This free 6-week course is designed for individuals looking to become volunteers in adult education classes. It caters to those who are passionate about supporting and empowering adults in their learning journey, regardless of their prior teaching or volunteering experience.

What will I learn on this course?

During this comprehensive course, participants will gain essential knowledge and skills to excel as adult education volunteers. We cover the volunteer’s role, emphasising their vital contributions. You’ll learn how to provide safe and appropriate support to learners, ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment. Additionally, we’ll equip you with strategies to assist learners with diverse needs, making your volunteering experience both fulfilling and impactful.

Progression opportunities:

Following successful completion of this course you could:

• Volunteer in one of our English or maths courses.
• Move on to a Teaching Assistant Course
• Become a Learning Support Assistant.

Course entry requirements:

To gain a place on this course you will have a Level 2 or equivalent English and maths qualification OR be able to demonstrate a Level 2 ability in English and maths through an initial assessment.

Course fees:

The course is free to all those over 19 years of age who meet the immigration eligibility criteria.
