At CALAT, we have been successfully delivering the AQA 8700 GCSE 9-1 English Language course since the new exam was launched in 2017. We are proud of our consistently outstanding results, well above the national average. In 2022, we had a pass rate of 100%.
The GCSE is a nationally recognised L2 qualification and is demanded by both universities and many employers.
The GCSE course is completely free to all eligible students. You must be 19+ and not enrolled elsewhere to take a L2 qualification, you must also not have previously passed the GCSE in English.
We will provide you with advice and guidance based on your needs and career goals during assessment and once you start your course.
*Blended learning means you will alternate by having one lesson online then one lesson in the classroom.
The class choices for GCSE English are as follows: (courses end in June 2024):
commit to a high level of attendance and punctuality.
complete homework each week to a satisfactory standard.
pass an assessment test at the end of Term 1 to continue into terms 2 and 3 and to take the GCSE exams
You will need to complete an online initial assessment to check your current skills. The assessment may last up to 3 hours.
Bookings for the information and assessment sessions will be available from July 2024.
Photographic identification (ID) will be required.
We are unable to accept additional GCSE English learners after the courses have started in September. If you miss these assessment sessions, you will have to wait until 2024 to enrol.
We look forward to welcoming you at CALAT and helping you achieve your goals.
