Are you thinking about a career in care or education but don’t have the right experience? Our Step into: courses are the perfect starting point. These four-week introductory courses in Adult Care, Early Years, Teaching Assistants, and Childminding will give you the knowledge and confidence to take your first steps in these fulfilling sectors. Gain insight into key skills, understand job roles, and explore your next steps in training or employment. No prior experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! These courses will run every term throughout the academic year.
I was a bit worried as I hadn’t studied for quite some years but, from the first time I contacted CALAT to completing my course was an amazing journey. it has helped me in so many ways and with all the knowledge and experience I’ve gained, I’m looking at starting a degree in Teaching!
Charlotte – Teaching Assistant Level 3
Adult Care
Interested in a career in adult care but not sure where to start? This four-week introductory course will help you understand the skills and responsibilities involved in supporting adults in care settings. Learn about key aspects of the role, explore career pathways, and build confidence for your next steps. From here you could progress on to our foundational skills courses at Level 1, advancing to comprehensive care techniques at Level 2, and culminating in specialised leadership training at Level 3, these courses prepare you for a rewarding and impactful career in adult care.
Early Years
Passionate about working with young children? This four-week course introduces the skills needed to support early childhood development in nurseries and preschool settings. Learn about play-based learning, safeguarding, and child development while exploring potential career paths in the early years sector. Ideal for those new to the field. Complete this course before moving on to a Level 1 course, progressing to in-depth educational techniques at Level 2, and advancing to leadership skills at Level 3, these courses equip you for a fulfilling career in early childhood education.
Teaching Assistants
Want to support children in the classroom? This four-week course provides an introduction to the role of a teaching assistant. Learn about key responsibilities, classroom support techniques, and working with teachers to help children thrive. Perfect for those considering a career in education but lacking experience. This course will lead you naturally on to one of our Level 1 courses, moving to comprehensive classroom support techniques at Level 2, and advancing to leadership and specialised support at Level 3, these courses prepare you for a rewarding career in education.
Childminding
Thinking about becoming a childminder? This four-week course introduces the fundamentals of caring for children in a home setting. Learn about safeguarding, child development, and the practicalities of running a childcare business. You’ll gain essential knowledge and be given the confidence to decide if this rewarding career is right for you. Complete this and you can move on to our NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Working in Home based Childcare, where you further develop your knowledge and understanding of how to provide an excellent service in your community.
