The course starts on Monday 5th June and will be delivered online.
10 – 1 pm
The course runs for 10 weeks
The Functional Skills L2 English course is suitable for those who currently do not have a L2 or GCSE qualification in English and require it for going to university or entering a particular career area or apprenticeship.
You will be prepared for 3 exams in English: a Speaking, Listening and Communication assessment, a Reading paper and a Writing paper.
You will learn the techniques for giving effective presentations and participating in group discussions on a variety of topics.
You will learn about how writers communicate meaning in many types of texts, eg. emails, letters, blogs, articles, speeches, reviews and other types of transactional written text.
You will be taught about techniques writers use to convey meaning. You will also produce similar forms of text and will learn how to use grammar and punctuation correctly, as well as improving your own spelling, sentence construction and organisation of your writing.
You could progress onto GCSE English if you wish, although many institutions and employers accept L2 which is equivalent to the GCSE.
You could use the qualification to enter university, an apprenticeship or a job as it gives institutions and employers confidence that you have a high level of skill in English.
You should either have a Functional Skills L1 certificate in English, or take an assessment online to show that you are working towards L2. We will set up your assessment and it can be done either in our centres or at home.
You should have a high level of proficiency in English, as this course is not suitable for people who are learning English as a second or foreign language.
Your immigration status will also be checked. You need to have the right to live in the UK and must fulfil the residence requirements. You will be advised about this if required.
You will need access to a laptop or computer with a steady internet signal.
The course is free to all those over 19 years of age who meet the immigration eligibility criteria.
