CALAT is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all learners and staff, therefore delivery methods* of courses will be using blended learning techniques complying with government guidelines for social distancing in relation to Covid 19.

This may mean that your course content could be totally online or a combination of both classroom and online delivery. Initial assessments and enrolments will also be online or processed over the telephone using an online payment app.

CALAT offers FREE* English & Maths, from absolute beginners up to GCSE Courses.

We offer:

  • Courses for beginners up to pre-GCSE level from 10 – 31 weeks
  • Short ‘fast track’ Level 2 courses (September & January) for access to university
  • Intensive GCSE English and maths starting in September 20 and a Fast Track GCSE maths course starting in January 2021
  • Flexible online English and maths programmes for learners from Entry 3 to Level 2
  • Courses leading to nationally recognised Functional Skills or GCSE qualifications
  • Short courses in report writing to improve employment options
  • Short English and maths courses including creative writing
  • Courses at different venues across the borough
  • Courses at times to suit you – day, evening and weekends.

Before you enrol, you will have to complete an online initial assessment which assesses your current skills. Please contact Calatenglish&maths@croydon.gov.uk in order to register to complete the online assessment.

Our intensive 30-week GCSE courses start in September 20 and a Fast Track GCSE Maths course will start in January 21.

Before you enrol, you will need to register online before you can attend one of the information-and-assessment sessions to assess your current skills. Please note these sessions will take place via Zoom and will last up to three hours.

*Courses are free to adults 19 or over as of 31 August 2001, except to those who are not eligible for funding and/or have to pay the overseas fee.

You can use the learning resources below as revision tools or, if you haven’t done any maths for a while, to give you an idea of some of the topics that will be covered on a maths course.
